Karlsruhe, 27/2/2015 – As part of the Fate of Arun update, Gameforge and developers Bluehole Studio have released the next content patch for the action MMORPG TERA. For the first time, this patch gives guilds the opportunity to fight over flying, upgradeable and limited guild fortresses. Flight is also the key word in the newest instance: the Sky Cruiser Endeavor soars over the world of Arborea, offering fresh challenges in two difficulty modes to high-level heroes. In addition, the dungeon added in the first part of the Fate of Arun update, Bathysmal Rise, is being expanded with a hard mode. This new difficulty setting ups the ante significantly, giving end-game content players that extra challenge, with valuable loot beckoning as a reward.

Home Sweet Home

The guild fortresses are an expanded form of housing and can be managed by guild leaders. Using guild points, these structures can be expanded and customised to the players’ desires, whilst NPCs may be placed on the fortress grounds, acting as merchants for the heroes, amongst other things. The necessary points can be earned in the newly introduced leagues, in which guilds can compete against one another in both PvP and PvE modes. At the end of the four-week competitive season, the ten best guilds in each category may put their fortresses on display next to one of the capitals.

In competitive PvP, points can be earned on the battlefields in Fraywind Canyon, Corsairs’ Stronghold, Champions’ Skyring and the guild battles. Players who prefer to focus on PvE content can earn points through various instance challenges.

Only Real Heroes Need Apply

In the new instance, Sky Cruiser Endeavor, players find themselves back on board the airship which brought them to the new continent. Offering new challenges for top level players, groups of heroes must battle their way through the various decks of this flying fortress, before reaching the top deck to face against a winged demon in the final confrontation.

In addition to hard modes for the two Fate of Arun instances, the patch also sees the return of the Channelworks. This dungeon has been adjusted to the new maximum level and holds new dangers in store, as well as better rewards.

Karlsruhe, 27/1/2015 – As part of the Allstars Cup 2014 final in Cologne, Gameforge is announcing a deeper commitment to S.K.I.L.L. – Special Force 2 in eSports. Together with the Electronic Sports League (ESL), the German games company is expanding the current offering with additional events and leagues. The main focus of attention is on the ESL S.K.I.L.L. Pro League: the top class of leagues for all S.K.I.L.L. – Special Force 2 clans. The best teams will fight here in two seasons for prize money of at least 30,000 euro. The first season will additionally end with a final at this year’s gamescom. All ESL leagues and cups together, the prize money for this year is already at a minimum of 56,000 euro.

The finals, play-offs and selected group matches for the ESL Pro League will be broadcast live on Twitch.tv by ESL TV. More information on the game and the ESL leagues can be found at http://skill.gameforge.com/news/333/.

Passion and S.K.I.L.L.

The ESL Major League replaces the two currently well-known and successful formats – the ESL Euro Series and the Allstars Cup. Alongside 3,000 euro prize money each season, the two best clans in the Major League will also rise up into the ESL Pro League. S.K.I.L.L. – Special Force 2 clans that want to try out their luck in eSports can get their money’s worth with the ESL Open League and the ESL Open Cup. Standing by the motto ‘Good Luck and Have Fun’, an easy entry into competition is the focus here. The ESL Open League serves as a springboard to the higher leagues.

The popular Go4S.K.I.L.L. Cup, an ESL Major Cup since December, will continue to run in 2015 as such. Every Sunday, clans will have the chance to win prize money of up to 200 euro.

Karlsruhe, 15/01/2015 – In collaboration with Studio VIrtys, Gameforge is publishing the browser-based RPG Therian Saga. Currently available in English and French, the game will also be released in German, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Turkish in 2015.

The official teaser trailer, which can be found here Therian Saga – Trailer, offers a preview of the game’s charms. Interested players can already register for free on the official website at www.theriansaga.com and start their adventures immediately.

The World of Therian Saga

This online adventure is designed with old-school fans of pen-and-paper roleplaying games in mind. Players are given free reign over Therian Saga’s huge fantasy world, without being hampered by predetermined classes or levels. Thanks to the game’s non-linear structure, players find themselves free to explore and act as they choose, writing their very own personal adventures as they go.

True to form for an RPG, players begin by creating their characters and sending them off into this open medieval world filled with challenges and dangers. As they progress through the game, characters learn various trades, craft items, explore mysterious ruins and forge friendships with other adventurers. The game’s heritage in pen-and-paper classics is particularly evident in the exploration of dungeons. Rather than pencil and dice, keyboard and mouse are the player’s trusty companions, with Therian Saga itself taking on the role of gamemaster, accompanied by an atmospheric text-driven storyline.

Preferred Career: Adventurer

Class restrictions aren’t the only thing Therian Saga does away with; the game also breaks new ground in terms of trades. Players select their preferred profession from a wide variety of options. Once they’ve collected the necessary wood and ore, for example, as a smith characters can combine these raw components and craft useful items such as weapons or items for trade.

Therian Saga in a Nutshell

  • Gameplay inspired by classic pen-and-paper RPGs
  • Versatile and unfettered character creation, no levelling
  • Wide variety of trades allow players to mould their heroes to their hearts’ content
  • Enormous game world ripe for exploration

Karlsruhe, 12/12/2014 – Today sees the European release of Tera: Fate of Arun by Gameforge and developers Bluehole. The update carries adventurers into Northern Arun, whether they are put to the test in four new zones with challenging quests and a new style arena.

King of Apeland

Fate of Arun introduces a new style of competition between players. In the Monkeydrome, two teams of three players face off against streaming hordes of monsters and attempt to outdo their opponents. Points are earned depending on the size and number of defeated enemies – from nigh-on defenceless cannon fodder right up to TERA’s hefty BAMs (Big Ass Monsters). It’s particularly important for the teams to concentrate their efforts: if they spread the damage too thinly, there’s a chance that enemies will disappear again before they can be finished off. Teams compete over three rounds, but to add an extra layer of strategy, they can spend the points earned during each round on special boosts for their own team or extra hurdles for their opponents: strengthening attacks, adding extra waves of monsters or – especially mean – a spell which intermittently stuns the opposing team for a few seconds.

On to New Shores

The journey to the continent’s northern reaches begins with a flight in an airship. The four new zones – Savage Reach, Spring Valley, Arx Umbra and Ex Prima – are populated with old friends and new enemies, who will accompany the players on their way to the new increased maximum level 65. A variety of new skills are available for every class along the way. Certain mechanics will also see an overhaul in this expansion.

Thanks to the Unreal 3 Engine the diverse landscapes of the new areas captivate the imagination with their fantastic visuals. On their journey through the unexplored territories, players will discover the homeland of the ancient Baraka and fight for the freedom of this wise people, oppressed and enslaved by the Archdevas.

New instances, such as the Sabex Armory or the Macellarius Catacombs, fit seamlessly into the story and are well suited for the players to use for levelling up. They already become available at levels 61 to 64. The dungeons Ravenous Gorge and Bathysmal Rise represent endgame content that will present even more experienced player groups with a real challenge. In every battle, heroes will have to cope with surprising fighting techniques and puzzles which can only be mastered as a team.

The update’s features in a nutshell:

  • Four additional zones – Savage Reach, Spring Valley, Arx Umbra and Ex Prima
  • Level cap increased to 65
  • New class skills
  • Exciting continuation of TERA’s storyline
  • Four challenging instances – Sabex Armory, Ravenous Gorge, Macellarius Catacombs, Bathysmal Rise
  • Monkeydrome

Karlsruhe, 10/12/2014 – Today, Gameforge and HEX Entertainment are releasing the second card set – Shattered Destiny – for the digital trading card game HEX: Shards of Fate. In addition to 200 new playable cards, the update also introduces five new heroes and additional skills. Since the latest update the game has already been available in seven languages, and the new cards will similarly be fully localised.

Now you see it…

The new ‘tunneling’ feature gives players the ability to play cards concealed, preventing the opponent from seeing their special abilities and making it difficult for them to react. HEX brings this physical game element into the digital realm. The ‘Subterranean Spy’ card, for example, can be used to spy on the opponent’s hand without them knowing about it. Further skills making their appearance with the new set are improved defence against flying creatures, as well as further options for knocking out enemy units directly.

Certain cards are also getting the chance to be socketed twice. As previously, socketing cards can give them further abilities, thus massively expanding the options available for personalising the cards in a collection. The five new heroes further increase the range of possible character skills, making it even easier to mould a deck to suit individual playing styles.

Overview of Shattered Destiny:

  • Over 200 new cards, including eighteen Legendary and over 70 Rare
  • Five new heroes with unique abilities
  • Cards with dual sockets for adding abilities
  • Dual shard cards giving a free choice of resources played
  • Powerful dragon cards: Tiaanost, Zakiir and Zeedu
  • New card abilities:
    • Tunneling: allows concealed cards to be played, surprising opponents with powerful traits.
    • Lethal: opposing cards taking damage from this ability always die.
    • Skyguard: cards with this ability can defend against units with Flight.

Anyone wanting to play HEX: Shards of Fate can register on the official website http://hex.gameforge.com and get immediate access to the game.

Karlsruhe, 08.12.2014 – Games publisher, Gameforge and developer Robot Entertainment, together with Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe, announced the PlayStation® 4 version of the action-laden multiplayer game Orcs Must Die! Unchained for Europe. The announcement was made as part of the events at PlayStation Experience, which took place in Las Vegas on the 6th and 7th of December.

Carsten van Husen, CEO of Gameforge commented: ‘Free to play has worked out excellently for us on the PC. Now, in partnership with Robot Entertainment, we are taking it to consoles: Orcs Must Die! Unchained is truly something special and is the ideal launch pad for us on the current generation of consoles. Clearly, Sony shares this opinion and has decided to make OMD!U a flagship title for the free-to-play offerings on their console.’

No matter if PC or console: Orcs Must Die!

Orcs Must Die! Unchained is currently in its closed beta phase for PC and is continually being tweaked, expanded and improved, thanks to the valuable feedback provided by the player community. The title can be described as a fortress siege game, borrowing mechanics from tower defence games as well as gameplay elements from enthralling third-person shooters. The mix creates strategically challenging PvP battles for up to 5 players on each team.

On widely-varying maps, the aim of the game is to stop the opposing team and their armies of AI controlled minions from getting to and destroying your rift. Orcs Must Die! Unchained offers a wide selection of vastly different character classes: brutish barbarians, deft archers and magical mages. Each hero has their own unique skills and abilities, whose tactical use, combined with the strengths of the other teammates, helps to turn the tide towards victory or defeat. Alongside class-specific weapons, skills and spells, players also have a wide range of traps at their disposal, which can be placed and replaced with improved versions at any time.

“PlayStation” is a registered trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

Karlsruhe, 28.11.2014 – Update 1.7 is here, and Gameforge is expanding the hero ranks in Orcs Must Die! Unchained with the high-spirited Apprentice. Heroes are now also clearly labelled, making it easier to tell whether a hero is suited to attack or defence. In addition, players can now see just how well their teammates are playing, thanks to a newly-introduced point scoring system.

A trailer for the unpredictable mage dilettante is available here

Create Chaos with fire and ice

The Apprentice is a product of the prestigious school of War Mage. The bold adolescent can barely keep a handle on her magical powers, which often has her wandering from one catastrophe to the next. The product of one such catastrophe is Feebee, the little bat that supports Apprentice. In a match her unpredictability is clear to see: she changes her magic element and resistances, thereby able to take it to her enemies using a variety of fire, frost, lightning and arcane magic. If the young lady is not able to help herself out of a sticky situation with magic, then she always has her stolen tomb at hand, ready to swipe at the enemy.

Support from the community

Just like the Apprentice learnt tips and tricks from her teacher, the War Mage, publisher Gameforge and developer Robot Entertainment are learning things from the community feedback they are receiving.

“We are extremely grateful to the participants of the running closed beta, for their excellent feedback and for the support that they have given us so far. This form of feedback is incredibly important and valuable to us as we work on creating the best possible Orcs Must Die! experience”, said Patrick Winkler, Product Director of Orcs Must Die! Unchained at Gameforge.

Gameplay improvement

To promote balanced teams and to ease initial play for beginners, symbols now display a hero’s recommended position: attacking players are marked green with a sword; defence red with a shield. Moreover, in game players can now see how well their teammates are doing in the MVP ratings as well as who is the best leader and defender, providing another motivational impulse to make them give their all for their team. A selection of new skins then completes update 1.7’s offering.

The features of update 1.7 at a glance:

+ New hero: Apprentice

+ MVP ratings: ranking lists that show players their rating within their team

+ Symbols now show a hero’s ideal position, whether in attack or defence

+ New skins for the Ancestor, Temper, Ball-and-Chain, Prospector and Apprentice

]]>
Karlsruhe, 20/11/2014 – With the release of the trailer to the upcoming update Fate of Arun, developers Bluehole Studio and publishers Gameforge offer a glimpse at the new features awaiting players of TERA: Rising towards the end of this year. Four new instances will be opening their gates to adventurers in the expansion.

The trailer to the update can be found here.

Strength in unity

Starting at level 61, groups of three to five players will be able to progress through the four instances Ravenous Gorge, Bathysmal Rise, Sabex Armory and Macellarius Catacombs. For the challenging dungeons, which often require the new top level, a classic team composition of healer, tank and up to three damage dealers is recommended. Only in the Ravenous Gorge is it possible to stray from this composition, since the players are supported by NPCs who can take over one of the missing roles.

Ravenous Gorge (Level 65)

Although the rare herbs and resplendent flowers of this region are a sore temptation, not even the native Khiria dare venture in. High above, in a great nest atop the forest’s summits, Nimistrix lauds on her throne – a monstrous bird, ruler over the jungle instance Ravenous Gorge. This instance, designed for a smaller group of three players, is among the most challenging elements in this update.

Tainted by the blood magic of the Archdevas, the creatures in the jungle have mutated into colossal beasts. In keeping with the proverb ‘eat or be eaten’, the adventurers must prevail against degenerate monsters such as horned apes and sparkling lizards before they can progress to the next area. Alongside the constant dangers of the jungle creatures, the shadowy figure of Nimistrix also joins the fighting, though without giving the players an opportunity to fight back. To challenge this ruler of the skies, the players must forge on to her nest above the treetops. There is more than one way for the group to get there: they can reach the nest after a steep climb, or use floating bubbles. Whether jumping or climbing, this sequence is neatly tied into TERA’s action-based combat system and demands precision on the part of the players.

Bathysmal Rise (Level 65)

The sunken temple leads the players into a sinister underwater world. Lurking in the depths is a creature which absorbs the spiritual energy of its victims with the aim of flourishing into a deity – Fulminar. At the very gates the visitors are greeted by a huge poisonous turtle, and they must continue to overcome various enemies from the ocean’s depths as the instance progresses. But martial skills alone will not be enough – the path to Fulminar is strewn with an array of puzzles for the players.

Sabex Armory (Level 61)

The Sabex Armory can be found in Spring Valley and is open to groups of five players. The Baraka have requested the destruction of a secret weapons forge belonging to the Archdevas. A destructive new technology – a melding of magic and machine – is being researched using a powerful but unknown energy source, designed to give the Archdevas victory over the Baraka. Similar to survival mode, each individual section of the forge can only be accessed once the previous area has been cleared of enemies.

Macellarius Catacombs (Level 64-65)

The Macellarius Catacombs are an Archdevan laboratory in which nightmarish experiments are being carried out on captive creatures with the aid of blood magic. The adventurers must confront the results of these experiments on their way through the dungeon.

Instance Starting level Players Boss
Ravenous Gorge 65 3 Nimistrix
Bathysmal Rise 65 5 Fulminar
Sabex Armory 61 5 Yateveo
Macellarius Catacombs 64 5 Demokraxus

Karlsruhe, 04/11/2014 – Today, Gameforge and HEX Entertainment are opening up the digital trading card game HEX: Shards of Fate to everyone. All the game’s PvP features are already present in the beta version providing players plenty of social interaction.

Additional content will gradually become available right up to the game’s final release. The number of available cards, currently numbering 350, will soon be expanded by a new set, bringing the total to over 500 playable cards.

Cory Jones, Head of Development and CEO of HEX Entertainment: “Due to high demand and the need for further testing by increasing player population on our servers, we felt the easiest way to accommodate this is by removing the restriction of having to have a beta key. This testing phase is also very important for us in the evolution of HEX and for our community. Together with Gameforge we’d also like to take the chance to thank all of the players who participated in closed beta. We really look forward to continue creating an even better gaming experience with all of our players.”

Tutorial and Ease-of-use

In advance of this move, the latest patch introduced a glut of all-round improvements and new usability features into the game. In addition to the reworked interface, which gives players an enhanced overview during duels, there is now an extensive tutorial to introduce beginners to the gaming mechanics in HEX: Shards of Fate. Apart from the exciting battles against other players, the public beta also gives players the opportunity to fight a rich variety of duels against differing grades of AI opponent.

Karlsruhe, 30/10/2014 – Gameforge and developers Bluehole have announced “Fate of Arun”, an expansion to the role-playing game TERA: Rising, to be released in December 2014. The update increases the level cap for all characters to level 65. It will also allow access to the continent of Northern Arun, which is divided into four hunting zones.

A teaser trailer offering a flavour of what Fate of Arun has to offer can be found here http://youtu.be/_BRfeLxhDh4.

Bigger, stronger, better

The increase in the maximum level will introduce 15 new skills to the game, with each class able to learn up to three additional abilities. Furthermore, certain present mechanics and abilities will be partially overhauled or receive additional effects. Lancers using the “Adrenaline Rush II” skill, for instance, will in future benefit not only from increased attack speed, but also from halved cooldown times on their melee moves as well as additional aggro from targeted opponents.

The four new hunting zones – Mjusu Kraal, Spring Valley, Ex Prima and Arx Umbra – are all to be found on a previously undiscovered continent. They offer missions and challenges leading to the new maximum level and which continue the story of Arborea.

Mjusu Kraal (from level 60)

The adventurer’s journey into Northern Arun begins in the thick jungles of Mjusu Kraal. Characters of level 60 and above will encounter new enemies, old conflicts and uncover clues about the preparations for a mighty war that has the potential to change the face of Arborea. This ominous danger is the common thread running through the background story.

Spring Valley (from level 61)

Stretching between the mountains above the jungle is Spring Valley. The second stop in Fate of Arun’s journey leads the hero to the town of Highwatch, a settlement isolated from the outside world which is threatened by extinction from the Archdevas. Players find themselves intervening in the intensifying conflict over two levels, becoming ever deeper embroiled in the story of the looming war.

Ex Prima (from level 63)

The third hunting zone merges seamlessly into the events in Spring Valley, with the expansion’s storyline escalating amongst the overgrown ruins. Adventurers of level 63 and above need to call on the aid of old allies to have a chance of keeping the peace.

Arx Umbra (from level 64)

The story’s climax nears with the player’s arrival in Arx Umbra. Despite all efforts, the smouldering conflict between Arborea’s peoples intensifies into a war, and it is here that the hostile camps begin to make preparations for the impending battle. Up to reaching the level cap there are missions here that are deftly tied into the campaign against the Archdevan threat.
