“With OGame turning 20 this year, the team and I are preparing some major updates for the game starting with the release of the Lifeforms expansion today, completely free. We are proud to finally be able to fulfill a long-standing community wish, and soon, the game will also be available on mobile devices so that players can control their fleets anytime, anywhere.” said the game’s Lead Product Manager, Martin Liedtke.
Rediscover OGame with this latest game-changing Lifeforms update, the biggest content expansion in nearly ten years! Designed as a natural extension to the main game that boosts the core experience, Lifeforms will introduce four species—Humans, Rock’tal, Mechas, and Kaelesh—into the universe, each with their own unique buildings, technologies, and abilities that players can discover and explore. Players will build a diverse civilization, manage food and resource production, research technologies, and unlock countless new strategies that will help them on their path to conquering the cosmos.
With the Lifeforms expansion, players will be able to discover four new, unique lifeforms throughout the universe:
- Humans: Players will discover this most common lifeform right from the start. Having developed new hyperdrive technology in the 21st century, humans have settled across the universe. Humans are friendly with many species, forming excellent trade relationships across the galaxy. A jack-of-all-trades that gives players a glimpse of tech provided throughout the game, Humans are the only lifeform with the technology which allows players to discover more lifeforms as they progress. Their food production and population growth are balanced, and they increase resource production on all planets. Humans do not enhance any class bonuses.
- Rock’tal: As their natural habitat consists of planetoids that orbit close to the sun, the Rock’tal have evolved stone-like skin and a slowed metabolism, making them resilient to living in conditions which few others could ever call home. Rock’tal are skilled miners with increased resource and energy production, and they have become specialists in the techniques of mining ores and minerals to safeguard their very survival. Their ships possess increased cargo capacities and are therefore more efficient at transporting goods. However, compared to other lifeforms their population grows less quickly and their food production is reduced. Rock’tal enhance the Collector class bonus.
- Mechas: Mechas are AI that can replicate themselves faster than any other known lifeforms. They communicate via an artificial neural network, providing them with enhanced capabilities and improved combat strategies. A lack of emotional modules in their AI makes Mechas unrestricted by moral deliberations, and the controller AI in the network is constantly on the hunt for new opportunities for conquest and exploitation. Other species fear the Mechas’ superior military technology, and for good reason: their fleets are swiftly constructed, equipped with sophisticated weapons systems, and constantly kept in good repair with nanobots. As well, Mechas can reproduce faster than any other species.
- Kaelesh: Born with a natural tendency to explore, the Kaelesh spend most of their lifetime traveling through the endless universe in search of others of their kind. They specialize in exploration tech and improving exploration outcomes, allowing their expeditions and research to be faster, which results in them gaining more resources. Kaelesh are specialists at exploring the universe, meaning they can decrease the time to get to missions. Additionally, they are less likely to lose expedition fleets. They only have a minimal need for food and have faster access to their tech tree. Kaelesh enhance the Discoverer class bonus.
Other additions in the Lifeforms expansion include:
- 48 New Buildings—12 per Lifeform: Players will start with the ability to build a small selection of buildings, but as new species are discovered and researched, more will become available.
- 72 New Species Technologies—18 per Lifeform: As players progress through the new content, they will unlock the lifeform-specific tech trees, which can be filled out to further combat, exploration, production abilities, and more, and influenced to branch in any number of ways based on the different species they discover.
- Two New Resources: The new resources—lifeforms and food—must be balanced carefully. Players must grow lifeforms to unlock species-specific technologies on their planet, but to allow the lifeforms on their planets to thrive, players need to manage food production. If lifeforms consume too much food, too quickly, they will eventually starve and begin to die out. Unlike food, lifeforms cannot be transported or stolen but can be destroyed when a planet is successfully attacked.

Extension of life forms
Rediscover OGame with the first major expansion in almost a decade! As a natural progression to improve gameplay, the Lifeforms expansion will populate the OGame universe with four species – Humans, Rock’tal, Mechas and Kaelesh, each with their own buildings and technologies. Players can colonize their planets with life forms, manage food production and research new technologies to discover other alien species and expand their empires. Those who develop a diverse civilization and cleverly combine the abilities of the different life forms will have countless new strategies for conquering space at their disposal.
Players have the choice of improving resource extraction and production as influential miners, building an overpowering, destructive fleet as power-hungry emperors, or exploring the endless expanses of space as explorers in search of raw materials and allies. Both veterans and newcomers alike will find the strategy that perfectly suits their playing style.
These four unique species come into play with the Lifeforms expansion:
Humans: This life form is available to all players from the start. Thanks to the development of hyperspace drive in the 21st century, humans have spread throughout the universe. Friendly to other races, they have the best foundations for excellent trade relations. The versatile people offer players a first insight into the various technologies. They are the only people who have the ability to discover other life forms.
Rock’tal: This life form inhabits inhospitable planets that orbit close to the respective sun. With a slowed metabolism and stone-like skin, these creatures brave the extreme heat. The Rock’tal are skilled miners and offer increased resource and energy production. They also have the ability to convert fleets destroyed in attacks on their planets into resources.
Mechas: Controlled by an emotionless artificial intelligence, the Mechas seek only to subjugate all other life forms, steal their resources and improve their own production. They can reproduce faster than other life forms because they are manufactured in factories. The advantages and abilities of the mechas enable them to speed up ship construction. They can also salvage more ships with higher fighting power from battles.
Kaelesh: Due to their innate urge to explore, most Kaelesh spend their lives traveling the endless universe in search of like-minded people. They specialize in technologies that improve exploration. Therefore, they conduct expeditions and research faster, which gives them more resources. The Kaelesh have developed a deep understanding of the universe, making them more likely to create moons and enlarge the moons of the planets they populate.
Other innovations:
48 new buildings, 12 per life form: Players start as humans with 12 buildings. Through development, they are able to discover and research new species, giving them more buildings at their disposal.
72 New Race-Specific Technologies, 18 per Life Form: As players progress through the new content, they unlock race-specific tech trees. These can be freely combined to improve combat power, research and production, among other things. The more species, the more possibilities!
Two New Resources: The expansion adds two new resources to the game: life forms and food. Players can settle life forms on their planets to unlock race-specific technologies, but at the same time they should keep an eye on food production. When life forms consume too much food too quickly, they begin to starve and may even become extinct. Unlike food, life forms as a resource cannot be transported or stolen. However, they can be killed in a successful attack on planets.
The OGame expansion Lebensformen will be coming to PC in the next few weeks. It will also be available for Android and iOS with the upcoming app coming later this year. For more information on the Life Forms expansion, click .
