Following huge success in the US, Wizard 101 has now arrived in the UK to capitivate the minds of budding wizards!
Wizard 101 is set in a magical Wizard City, where the wizarding world is looking for apprentices! An award-winning concept – including mmorpg.com’s ‘Best Family Game’ – Wizard 101 is a family orientated MMO with an unlimited free trial period. Former teacher of death magic at the Ravenwood School of Magical Arts – Professor Malistaire Drake – is planning on creating chaos in the Spiral worlds and he must be stopped! Players must help the headmaster and skilled wizard Merle Ambrose to defeat him.
Encouraging social activity and interaction between players in a safe environment, Wizard 101 is a great form of entertainment for families to enjoy together. Easy and simple to use for would-be wizards of any age, players set up their character and find out which school of magic is right for them. With a total of seven schools of magic at Ravenwood, each focuses on a certain type of magic/spells, with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Once players are in a school they can cast spells and practice card combat to increase their strength. All combat on Wizard 101 is based on collectable cards, where strategy and tactics all come into play – brilliant for teaching kids problem solving techniques. The aim is to build the most powerful deck as possible to defeat the evil Malistaire and save Wizard City.
Wizard 101 works on a system of ‘crowns’ and there are lots of different options available. Free players are able to access most of Wizard City and will also get a preview of one of the seven worlds, Grizzleheim as well as being able to practice Player vs Player combat and decorate a dorm room or Wizard City house. Players buy crowns in order to gain access to new areas and take part in combat. This can be done either on a ‘pay as you play’ basis so that new areas are accessed gradually – a great option to use game play as a reward for kids having completed homework for example – or players can become a member of the Wizard Club, which allows access to all worlds, all matches and all areas.
Parents have complete control over what their children get up to on Wizard 101, so it’s completely safe. Simply visit the parents section, log in and put settings in place to control who they talk to and where they can go on the site. It’s also possible to control how many crowns they spend, so there’ll be no surprises when the bank statement comes through! Why not join your child on the site and explore the new worlds together? Wizard 101 is not just for kids!
